Crystal structure refinement with JANA2006

Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena
Institute of Geosciences / General and Applied Mineralogy

11 - 13 March 2019

This three day short course will provide an introduction to the crystallographic software JANA2006 for the refinement of powder and single crystal data measured with X-ray or neutron diffraction as well as for modulated structures having up to three modulation vectors.

JANA2006 is a free software (cf. jana.fzu.cz), developed by Václav Petříček who will be the main instructor for this short course.

  • Introduction to the Jana software
  • Solution of simple 3d structures
  • Introduction to modulated structures
  • Solution of simple 4d structures
  • Twins and multiphases of 3d and modulated structures
  • and more

For this course, a preliminary experience with JANA2006 is not required. The course is designed for master and doctoral students but is open to early career scientists as well.

The number of participants will be limited. The official language will be English. It is also required to bring your own laptop.

Václav Petříček, main developer of JANA2006, Michal Dusek, and Jakub Plášil (all Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences, Prague)

The registration fee for the short course is 45€ which covers the course materials, lunch and refreshments during the course.

Non-Jena student members of DMG are eligible for travel support of 50€.
